VMAR DHC-6 Twin Otter - Twin Engine Scale Perfection.
Developed in 1965 via de Havilland Canada, this twin turbine DHC-6 was developed as the perfect STOL (Short Take Off and landing) aircraft to meet the demanding needs of commuter flight in the most hostile locales known to mankind. Rugged in design, the DHC-6 Twin Otter is a purpose built brute, capable of operating well beyond typical aircraft constraints and limitations. A testament to its superior capability, the DHC-6 holds the title of the only known aircraft to perform a South Pole rescue operation in brutal -60 degree freezing temperatures, setting apart this astonishing aircraft that is still in service to this very day.

Utilizing a two piece wing design for ease of transport and storage, the DHC-6 utilizes full span ailerons driven by (1) servo per aileron for maximum levels of precision and control. The came in a week to Pa and was in good shape. I am currently putting it together and doing a few mods. The motor mounts could be a bit stiffer because it can easily twist once glued together and put on the wing. I glued 1/4 square pieces to the corners for rigidity and coat with resin because it will be on floats. I will also be glassing the motor cowls and nose cone because the plastic pieces are flimsy. Will add more as I go along...

I have way too many planes but for the price, I added the VMAR Twin Otter DHC-6. Okay, here’s the rub… you get what you pay for. This isn’t a Hanger 9 kit so expect a few thing that will disappoint. Like: the front landing gear is crap. The whole assembly needs to be redesigned or replaced. The main landing gear put the wheels at a bad angle so the wire must be bent to get to a proper angle. Overall, there are many places that need to be glued and strengthened. All of this only takes a few extra minutes. I reinforced the nose cone because it is so thin. Okay, the flying characteristics is straight forward. Recommended CG is good. It flies good and is very stable. Not a 3D flyer but scale is fun. Touch and goes are flawless. Buy one, enjoy. Remember, you get what you paid for. But it is not a big disappointment…
Just started putting together the DHC-6. So far, the kit looks like it is complete. Instructions leave a lot to be desired for someone who might be a beginner. A lot of clean up work to get parts to fit correctly (not a big deal, and it's part of the enjoyment). It is easier if you use the suggested parts for assembly.
Everything was as advertised. Helidirect has been super helpful!
i love my vmar planes i have several of these all different and all are super easy to build
This airplane is an excellent FPV platform, and allows easy take offs, and smooth flying characteristics. The covering is very nice and the graphics are fantastic. The balsa in the wings is very thin and the wings are light weight. The horizontal stabilizer mounting is a little flimsy, and needs some triangle stock on the bottom side for extra strength. The nose piece and motor nacelles are very thin plastic, but can be reinforced on the inside with packing tape. I replaced the nose gear with a flexing strut, which smoothed out takeoffs on grass. HeliDirect: please consider carrying replacement parts !
I saw this plane and thought hay this would. Be a good first full build, so I ordered it. Then I got a call to go bk to work in Ak . Two days befor I leave it arives 🤗. But I can’t open it up.
Finely get to Ak I’m dieng to see it all in its glory. Open 📦 and it’s built,,,
Sept for the slack skin on the underneath fusealoge B e a utyfull.
Waiting on electronics to finish it.
And it arrived quickly.
