SAB introduced the Direct Drive on this class of helicopter and as you may know, we sold more than 2500 KITS.
However, in pursuit of improving performance, we determined that the Direct Drive could no longer be the correct solution. The evolution of the RAW 420 will use a motor belt drive.
This is how the RAW 420 Competition was born. Lighter, faster, more flexible in the selection of the desired head speed at a higher performance level.

Building is a breeze! Super happy! I have 8 different 400 size helis and this one builds about the easiest. Makes it super nice with colored life like instructions. It's definitely worth it! Not cheap but worth it

This is my fourth Raw 420 and my second 420 competition. The 420's are my go-to helicopters. They fly great and reliable. Easy to assemble and excellent instructions. The prioritary battery connecter on the competition is a much heavier duty than used in the direct drive Raw. I would recommend using the Torq BLS0808 Brushless Micro HV Cyclic Servo's and TORQ BLS0705M Mini HV Brushless servo for the tail.

First SAB build and it has gone well. Quality kit and packaging. I like having the physical build manual and think it is laid out well. Very happy overall.

This is my second 420, my first one is the DD version. I really like how SAB manuals are so well thought out and the helis are so easy to build. Bags are labeled according to the page your on. Can’t wait to fly this version.

I was looking for a 420 size heli and this met all my expectations and the color is also nice.

This heli is great! I own the Raw 420 DD and wanted something the same but with a bit more freedom to run motors/ pinions. All i will say is it built very easy and on it's maiden i couldn't believe how light it felt in the air and very snappy. I am not a pro by any means but i do have a feel for a decent heli.
I'm super impressed and sorry to say but my DD Raw will probably get a whole bunch of shelf time now.

60a HW esc-moving to an 80
Spirit GT
RT blades
Torq servos
Linear pitch at 12 degrees and about 1900-2100 rpm
