Goosky Legend RS4 Venom Helicopter Kit with Motor - Yellow (Unassembled)

Instructions were ok, I've seen better and certainly more clarity. A couple steps you find yourself with extra screws wondering if you messed up....only to discover a dozen pages later...you need those screws for something else but wasn't clear that you were specifically saving the screws for something unrelated.

They did have a few spare screws marked 'gift' but none were what I ended up needing to replace, so a trip to the hobby store fixed that. Most are M2 style and range from 4-6mm with a few 8/10/12mm M2 screws, so pretty universally compatible. 1.5mm, 2mm and 2.5mm hex drivers will get you through the vast majority of tools needed. Few places having 3-5mm wrenches were also handy. Steam RC terminator adjusting set sold separatly was a supreme choice! The swashplate leveler was awesome fit! Also Torq servo tuner was well worth the price!

I got pulse 2200mah 50c 6s batteries, very tight fit had to place sideways and couldn't mount with the velcro belt(only the base plate Velcro) so I put some gorilla hot glue bead around the base to ensure it is not going anywhere. Means I have to buy a separate mounting plate for each battery, $5 is small price as you can not pry it off! I got 2 of these 2200 batteries, I am not into anything other than sport flying so I opted for longer flight time. Otherwise 1800mah recommended is the best overall pick and will be what I get in when I order more. (also makes the bird a tad nose heavy to go 2200mah to consider that too)

I did go with the base kit and none of the Goosky avionics. Helidirect recommended 80amp hobbywing ESC. This was too large and I had to get creative, keep reading. I also went with Torq servos, Nexus FC and an ELRS Rp3-H receiver both by Radiomaster. After dealing with Goosky's mediocrity avionics software from my S1 and S2, I really didn't want to go with more bad tech support and instructions. Goosky as great engineering and high performance birds, but they are terrible with software and instructions for it.

The build had a few challenges:

- Helidirect recommended 80 amp Hobbywing ESC...it doesn't fit, so I had to pull the mounting screws to the ESC tray out in the rear and raise the bed. Rather than drilling holes in the canopy and hoping I measured right...I instead re-inserted the mounting screws to act as a stopper and put a nylon nut to hold them in place. Then I put RVS silicon as a gasket/shim to absorb any vibration. Ended up a tight fit, but it beat cutting the frame of the ESC or gambling on drilling new screw holes through the frame.

- ESC and Motor are so close and there is just a mess of long wires dangling everywhere, I will have to cut and solder my own connectors and SIGNIFICANTLY shorten the wiring...or have a mess dangling everywhere under the gear. They really want to punish you for not choosing their own branded mediocrity.

- The FC mounting plate is in a great spot...but there is no room anywhere to properly mount the RX and run the antenna in an ideal 90 degree spread. I still haven't figured out where I will place the RX as there is no mounting plate included; that would have been nice. The only extra plate they provide is for those who go with an alternate ESC, which I had to use on my hobbywing.

- I also wish they provided a good bracket to mount the antenna on the boom and give it a proper split. I may mount on the side of the canopy...but this is going to cause headache for running an antenna. Still undecided, I might order a spare ESC plate and use that to mount my RX.

Overall I am very happy I went with my choices, too bad nobody on youtube has Heli build videos with anything other than spectrum or mikado it seems. And all I see at the local flying club is 99% copy/paste cheap foam airplanes and Spektrum radios. I'm in uncharted territory for sure by going with a Rotorflight 2 setup, but I think it will be amazing to cut my teeth here and now with this rather than on my upcoming Tron Gemini.

A great kit and challenging build. Had a couple screws snap in half and Heli Direct promptly resolved. Truly A+ customer service.

First off HD is great, fast shipping good selection and customer service has been great. This is my first build so I expected some struggles. But I didn't expect to have to replace parts before ever flying. Overall the build has gone well but I had big problems with the swashplate. The ball ends go in very hard, there also soft and snap easily. I was uncomfortable with how hard they were going in and sure enough the last one stopped about halfway and snapped off. With no way to remove it I had to order a new swash. I also tried to back out the other ball ends figuring I'd save them as spares. Every one of them snapped off minus the anti rotation pin. When I got the new one the ball ends where already installed. I figured this was good they should fit at least. I went to back one out to locktite it and to my surprise the ball ends where turning just as hard as the original swash. So I drove it back in and left them. I figured if there come out that hard they don't need locktite. This could be an issue down the road as it seems likely i will have to make repairs due to crashes in the future. Is hate to be buying a $30.00ish dollar swash everytime because you can't remove the ball ends. I had the same issue with a servo arm that I setup wrong initially. I had a hard time holding the locknut even with pliers to get the screw out and you guessed it, it snapped. I have no idea why you would have such small hardware under so much torque, it's all but guaranteed you'll have problems. In the end this is an issue with Goosky and not HD. I just hope they are taking care of what ever the problem is.

Aside from those issues the rest of the build has gone well. The RS4 looks awesome and I'm definitely looking forward to flying her.

Great kit. Have not started it yet. Currently working on a standard RS4 build and configuration. Thanks HD for the customer support on the RS4. It will be flying very soon is the plan.
