Gas GPH/OBR 310 Helicopter Edition Engine V2

So, when I was building my Whiplash Gasser, I was on the fence on what engine I wanted. Do I go with TRM (which I already have had in the past), Hanson or OBR? I decided to go with the OBR 310. When I opened and unboxed the engine I was giving it a closer look. To my surprise my new engines piston had scratches on it (see attached photos). I reached out to OBR and sent them the pictures. They reassured me that the engine is fine and that the scratches/marks will be gone after the first gallon of fuel. During the first gallon of fuel, I was getting excessive vibrations from the engine. Some of this was from the rich mixture of break-in but either way my FBL was not having it. After that one gallon I decided to pull the pipe off and look at the piston. As you can see from the attached pictures the scratches are now very significant. I again reached out to OBR, and again addressed my concerns about the scratches along with the high vibration level my FBL controller is reporting. The response I received from OBR was "if you feel it's a problem send it in". I pulled the engine out and sent it in at the cost of $43.00. A little better than two weeks later I received a call from them explaining that they had disassembled my engine and found the issue. I was told that “they had not properly aligned the cylinder with the machined crankcase when they initially assembled my engine”. They also said that’s what caused the scratches on the piston and what was causing the high vibration levels I was getting because the cylinder was offset. The conversation was followed up with them stating “we are not going to charge you any labor for this but will have charge you $25.00 return shipping”! Wow really? I’m now into this engine for $807.99! I received the engine about a week later. To my surprise it still had the scratched piston and cylinder that it had when I sent it in. I guess maybe I expected too much thinking that since OBR made the mistake, they would have replaced the piston and cylinder since they were clearly damaged during assembly. I am disappointed with the lack of quality control and customer service here. The fact that I had to pay for shipping round trip on something that was assembled wrong is mind blowing, the fact that even the mention of charging me labor for fixing their error, let alone when I received the engine back it still had scratched parts on it.

To date I have 3 gallons through this engine. It is a powerhouse and yanks my Whiplash around with authority. I am happy with the power the engine generates, and it has been significantly smoother since I got it back, but I do think I will go a different direction for my next engine.
