"For the past year I’ve owned a SAB Goblin 700. It has been my favorite heli to date. The reasons are many, but include aesthetics, feel, agility, speed, design and maintenance. This left me with a desire to capture that in a smaller model when I first heard that SAB was going to release a little Goblin. At IRCHA last year I was able to finally get my hands on one. I was immediately impressed with the design layout and watching the pros fly the 500 just made me hunger for one even more..."

After the enjoyment and success I had with the SAB Goblin 700 I was looking forward to get my hands on this kit. Having built the 700 and experiencing the thought that went into the packaging, manual, and design of SAB kits, the Goblin 500 definitely did not fall short of my expectations. The SAB Goblin 500 is a very clean design. The relatively low parts count made this helicopter very simple and straightforward to build. There are some very innovative improvements over the 700 such as the battery tray, HPS head, and the tail pushrod routed inside of the boom was a nice touch. The tail is a dampened system which is much like the main rotor head on a T-Rex 450. You adjust the tension on the tail belt by sliding the tail box in or out on the boom. It is a very simple process and easy to maintain. I ordered the Red/White scheme. I have read many threads where people were concerned this scheme may be hard to see in the air but in my experience so far this scheme is very visible in the air. The white has like a metallic or pearl flake in it. It is visually stunning. The kit comes with two battery trays for simple and quick changing of the batteries. The battery trays have slots that allow you to adjust the battery forward and aft to get perfect balance. This allows a range of battery types and sizes to be used. The recommended range is from 2800 to 4500mah sized batteries. I decided to run the Pulse Ultra 6S 4500mah 45C packs as I could also run those in my 700 if I wanted. I had no issues getting the balance is perfect. I am running the Scorpion HK-4020-1390 with a 16T pinion through the Castle Creations Talon 90 ESC backed up by a Scorpion Backup Guard. My headspeed settings are as follows: Norm: 2400 IU-1: 2600 IU-2: 2750 I am getting 5 minute flight times at 2750 headspeed of what I would call mild to moderate 3D flight. All in all this kit has been a great experience from the build to today. The heli is rock solid and flys just like its big brothers The SAB Goblin 630/700/770. I have 80 to 90 flights so far and I have only made one significant change. I started with the Align DS-515M servos as they were a great bang for the buck at only around $40 each and performed well. I have since changed these out with the new BK DS-5001HV Mini Cyclic Servos. Since doing this I have been able to switch from 6 volts to 8 volts on the Talon’s BEC Output. Setup Summary: Motor: Scorpion HK-4020-1390 ESC: Castle Creations Talon 90 BEC: Talon's BEC w/Scorpion Backup Guard Flybarless Controller: Mini V-Bar Cyclic Servos: Align DS-515M Tail Servo: Outrage Torq BL9188 Motor Pinion: 16T Batteries: Pulse Ultra 6S 4500 45C Packs

Excellent packaging, perfect fit and finish and flys like a dream! This helicopter performs just like it's larger counter-parts, smooth, agile, predictable and extremely fun!

Great heli, it crashes very well with very little parts count. It flies much like a bigger heli, its flying characteristics are very versatile. It can be setup with a low headspeed and be very smooth and stable and with a higher headspeed is extremely agile and fast. I'd highly recommend it for anyone looking for a heli that can be taken almost anywhere and yet have a very large feel.

This helicopter is one of the best practice helis. It's built solid like a tank, takes one battery and can take a beating. It crashes very well. I've crashed mine 5 times so far since the heli came out. I haven't replaced the boom yet. The paint is chipped some, but that's all. The boom breaks away like it's supposed to and is saved. I usually fly this heli during the week after work because it only takes one battery. I don't have to drag all my charging equipment out. I just fly the batteries I have and charge later at home. Overall, I'm extremely impressed with the quality and performance.

Without a doubt a super fun machine to own and fly. The heli can take a BEATING, and will come back for more. It fits up to 520mm blades. And with 520 blades auto rotation performance is good enough to pull off some pretty great aerobatic autos. I decided to try full size servos along with the full size canopy. This worked out well, although it's a bit heavy. I will be trying out the new Torq mini servos soon. This is THE heli to fly in poor visibility conditions. When I fly in fog or heavy clouds, this is my first choice to fly.

I am very impressed with the Goblin 500 helicopter kit. If you want a kit that is well-engineered so that every part fits, you have found it!! This kit is well pack with parts grouped into building steps. Included you will find the “very informative” and easy to follow instruction manual packed full of 3D drawings. Fast and easy assembly seem to follow the quality and precision engineering of the SAB company. When built, I found not only a great looking helicopter, but a very stable flying bird. It flies like a much larger heli then it actually is. The Goblin 500 is a very stable and fantastic flying helicopter. It can be set-up as a very aggressive 3D machine or a tame precision flying heli. This Helicopter is at the top of my favorite to fly list. SAB has defiantly hit the mark with this RC Helicopter.

I don't think I'll ever get rid of my G500. Super light weight... strong on 6S... fantastic visibility... easy to build and maintain... Flies like a much larger heli! I really enojoy the internal tail pushrod design of this one also. I really enjoy larger models also, but its very nice to be able to swap packs out so quickly with the quick release tray design, and slap another 6S pack in it and rock and roll!

I fly this helicopter more than my 700. I love the way it flies, easy to beat on or fly smooth. Totally love that is a 6s machine. I run the Quantum 4115 for the motor and it has plenty of power. I have had two fairly hard crashes, both causing the boom break away feature to prove its usefulness. Both hard crashes did not damage the boom and were about $100 with blades (both over grass/dirt). If you are on the fence about getting one, you won't regret it.
