Product description

With the debut of the Phoenix Edge series of ESCs the next evolution in speed controller technology has arrived. The Edge series introduces a user programmable auxiliary wire capable of functions modelers have only dreamed of, until now. The white auxiliary wire can be used for helicopter governor gain input adjustments mid-flight, serve as an audible beacon after an “unexpected landing”, act as an RPM output for 3-axis gyros that support RPM sensors, be used as an ESC arming lock (coupon for free Arming Lockout Key included) or as a receiver arming lock. Combined with the data logging capability the Edge series of controllers offer, users can enjoy unparalleled versatility.

The Phoenix Edge series is intended for use in helicopters ranging from 450 to 800 size, and fixed wing aircraft up to 1.20 size and larger. As always, the Edge series of controllers offer industry-leading software functions, data logging, and USB programming capability via Castle Link USB adapter (free with included coupon).

This unit was kind of pricey but worth every penny. Very good set up with out gov mode. Fantastic set up using gov mode! Make sure you take the time to update before starting the set up. Once again Castle continues to put out good stuff. I also have the Talon 90 on my 550 and it is now updated and working flawlessly as well!

I just recently installed the Castle Edge Lite 50 in my new Gaui X3 build. This is a great ESC for a 450-size helicopter whether running on 3s or 6s. The built-in BEC output is completely programmable from 5v to 8.4v depending on the type of servos that you are running. Being that it is one of the new Edge ESCs, it has an auxiliary wire that provides an RPM output that can plug directly into your FBL unit as an RPM sensor (no more need for an external phase sensor). Just one comment if you are using the mini vBar (which is what is installed on my X3) - The white wire on the RPM sensor needs to plug into RX-A of the mini vBar and the white cable goes towards the top of the plug. In my case, this resulted in the plug being in 180 degrees compared to the other plugs in the mini vbar. The built-in logging functions of the Castle ESCs are one of the main reasons I use them on all my helis. This is great if you are using an external governor and need to verify what RPM you are actually getting (as opposed to what you have programmed into your FBL controller). Make sure you order a Castle Link for programming the ESC via your PC. Although you can do rudimentary programming without the Castle Link, you aren't able to access the many great features of the ESC without it.
