iKon - Are You Ready?
Brought forth by MSH - the makers of the 'Brain' - the iKon represents a new leap in flybarless control. Bert Kammerer, in cooperation with MSH, worked tirelessly to fine tune the iKon flybarless controller to perfection. Every aspect of firmware has been fine-tuned and optimized, and in the end, we can say this system simply has no equal on the market today. The iKon is ready to change everything. Get ready for the iKon - it's ready for you.

Vibration Resistant - Bad Vibes Goodbye.
Simply put, gyros hate vibration, and when a flybarless system is sensitive to vibration, this has a direct impact on flight performance. The iKon flybarless unit utilizes new vibration dampening technology to isolate vibrations and put them in their place. This results in rock solid flight with nothing but true, direct flight performance that you can see and feel.

Simplified Setup - The Wizard is Here.
Nothing is more irritating, frustrating and time consuming than fumbling with manuals, setup videos and tech help when it comes to proper flybarless setup. No more - the wizard takes control. Utilizing an easy to follow and fuss free setup, the iKon takes a simplified approach to flybarless setup, allowing you to spend less time tuning and more time flying - just the way it should be.

Auto Level Technology - This is It.
That sickening crash can now be put behind you with auto level technology. For anyone still learning the basics, or those pushing new 3D limits, the auto level technology built within the iKon will revolutionize the way you fly, allowing you to push the limits with less risk of crashing. This technology is one of the multiple reasons that make the iKon so special, allowing a recovery from any orientation, no matter if the aircraft is right side up or upside down. Unlike other "bail out" technologies, the iKon "knows" how the aircraft is orientated, allowing a right side up recover every single time. Further, with auto level technology, the aircraft will remain level, allowing those first few training flights to be truly memorable - in a good way.

Satellite & S-Bus Ready - It's Your Choice.
Allowing the convenience of satellite technology, the iKon supports Spektrum DSM2 & DSMX satellite receivers, along with S-Bus technology via Futaba. On the Spektrum side, (2) satellite ports are offered for maximum redundancy & path diversity, suited for helicopters 500 sized and greater.

Built in Governor - Set Your Speed & Flight Mode.
Utilizing a transmitter selectable governor, the iKon brings compact flybarless technology to every level of the helicopter, allowing you to dial in that perfect rotor speed that suits your style, all at the flip of a switch. Incorporating a selectable (3) switch flight mode program, the iKon allows you to dial in your helicopter with fully adjustable flight mode parameters to obtain the very best from every flight. No more ancillary devices needed on your machine - the iKon handles it all.

Polarity Protection - No more unit burned because wrong direction plug in
iKon now comes with polarity protection feature. All pins are now polarity protected. You can put power in any plug in any direction and it doesn't get damage the unit.

So how does it compare to other units? (From RCHeli Nation Review)

"As most of you know the majority of my flying has been on either a BeastX or a V-Bar, so these are the units I will be directly comparing to the iKON. I will start off with the BeastX. In my opinion, the iKON is way ahead of the BeastX in terms of flying characteristics and the features it offers. Please don’t think I am saying the BeastX is a bad unit. It has its place, It is easy to setup and will fly great right our of the box, which is great for anyone who wants to keep it simple of for those just getting started with flybarless. Once you advance enough to the point where you want more features though, I feel the iKON is a great next choice.

Now for the big one, comparing it to my V-Bars. In the end, in my mind I now consider these units to be…wait for it…equal! In terms of the software used for programming, the V-Bar is the clear winner, but looking at the flight performance and features, the decision becomes much more difficult. When comparing the performance in terms of cyclic and tail I would say these units are so close it is hard to even tell them apart when flying them. They both give you a very precise locked in feel, and are very tunable for all flying styles. Both can be tuned to the point where there are no negative tendencies. For people who fly harder then me, this argument may not be true, but this is what I found.

Now, when it comes to features I have to say the iKON is the winner for me. It has an internal governor, which is easy to wire since there are so many ports on the unit…not the case with the Mini V-Bar. Due to this I have never even used the internal governor on the Mini V-Bar since it is not worth the wiring disaster this creates. The final thing is the bailout. There is no competition, as the V-Bar does not have a similar feature. When you combine all of this with the significantly lower price of the iKON, in my opinion, the iKON comes out equal if not slightly ahead of the V-Bar."

I now have 6 iKONs in service and could not be happier with each one ranging from a Blade 300X to a Goblin 700. The iKON has each helicopter flying with the same locked in feel. I've flown beast x and Robird G31, having 2 beast x units & 2 Robird G31 units at the same time as iKONs. I am in the process of converting all of my birds to iKON. I simply cannot get the same flight characteristics with those other FBL controllers. The iKON software is easy to use and intuitive. I find that switching between basic and advanced modes will get you set up correctly out of the box.

I now have the Ikon on all my helicopters. Started with one on my 450 dominator and my skills improved exponentially. Flys so smooth and predictable. Tail is locked in without fiddling with settings and gain. In software simply click checkbox "set in software" set gain to 45 and thats it for the rudder. The bail out feature give me more confidence to explorer my limits. I was reluctant to buy because only way to setup is with software, no buttons or controller(ebar) like others. Didnt want to take my laptop with me to the field... not a problem with bluetooth to your cell phone app. Recently sold all 3 of my beastX 1 3gx(junk) 1 gpro and 1 KDS ebar on ebay. Cost same as beast x and less than vbar. You cant go wrong with this FBL unit.

Hello: I have a Castel pro BEC and I would like to connect it to my Ikon FBL system. The castle pro has two power conections comming from the Bec pro to power the Rec. pack. I am using the ikon as my reciver. My question is: Where do i plug in the two power wires of the Castle pro, so i have both wires going into the ikon? Castle wants both power wires going to the reciver. the secound wire is a back up power wire.

This is an update to my previous review of the Ikon. In the first review, I mentioned the Ikon doesn't let the heli do pirouettes faster than 1000deg/sec, but now, it can. With the help of the Ikon software developer, which is active in the MHS Helifreak Forum, I was able to get the pirouetting rate I wanted. And yes, I now can do blurr pirouettes with my T-rex 700E DFC. Needless to say, I'm very happy with the Ikon.

After flying my T-Rex 700E Pro DFC using the factory setup with the Ikon for some time, I can say it's a good FBL unit. The heli feels locked, predictable and responsive. The tail holds very well, and the Self Level feature works just fine. Speaking about the Self Level feature, many have reported problems with it due to vibrations. I would recommend you install the Ikon using the Lynx Omicron Gyro Pad Vibration Killer to make sure you won't have such problems. Mine worked fine with the factory tape, but ended using the Lynx just in case. The initial setup was easy. The software is fine but lacks good descriptions in some areas. The Bluetooth connection feature is very convenient. After I setup mine, I had problems with the tail bouncing a bit at stops. The heli also showed the "dolphin" tendency when doing pitch pumps during forward flight. Although I've invested a wealth amount of time with the computer at the field trying to get rid of them, I've been unable to fix them completely. I then have decided to fly and enjoy the heli as both aren't that bad. You need to invest time learning how to setup the Ikon because its setup techniques and terms are different among the other FBL units you may have used. Myself, I've used the 3GX and Beastx FBL units in the past. I've found the Ikon doesn't let the heli do pirouettes faster than 1000deg/sec. Pirouettes of 1000deg/sec are more than enough for normal flight, but they are too slow for maneuvers like stall turns, and other maneuvers you might think of blurr pirouettes are usually used. So if you like doing blurr pirouettes, you won't be able to do them using the Ikon. All in all, the Ikon is a good FBL unit. It has the pirouetting speed limitation. Its initial setup is easy, and if you end with good results after doing it, you'll enjoy the unit as the plug and play Beastx.

Been flying the BX for 2 yrs and recently purchased an ikon. For a newby, it was intimidating but after working with a local flying buddy, he taught me how to use this unit and now using them on 3 of my birds. Very satisfied.

I've got the iKON flybarless system in beefy helicopter in my fleet from scale to competition 3D helis. The iKON is extremely easy to setup and the wizard walks you through step by step. Also the self leveling is great for beginners looking to build confidence in their flying.

I have an ikon in every heli I own from a 450 to goblin 700 to a trex700n. To me three simply isn't another flybarless controller out there. And I had flown them all. The ease of set up, blue tooth capability, wide variety of tunable settings, and reliability make this my flybarless unit of choice. It does everything I need and more all while being extremely precise. You will not be disappointed with this flybarless controller.

Well what can I say I love this system. Coming from a beast I have now switched everything I have over to iKon. It just works. I'm running the Bluetooth adapter which makes setup at the field as easy as it can be. It has honestly improved my flying by leaps and bounds. It just feels more connected then any other system I have used. Gov works great and the auto level gives me the confidence to try new things. And has already saved me a few times. If you have not tried it yet. Get your hands on one. It speaks for its self as soon as you take the controls.

I was at New England heli phenom in 2012 and Devon LeBlanc was flying and I was able to get up close and personal and learn about his heli and he had the msh brain before it was on the market and he swore by it, and I decided then I wanted it and so when ikon came out and I got my goblin I opted for the ikon over a vbar or beastx and so happy I did , excellent fbl unit bailout works great and setup on this unit is so fast and easy and very tune able. Great unit solid tail and flys like a dream

I have been flying my Trex 700 using the IKON for this past year and really like the Self Leveling option. I am a intermediate flyer and it gives me the confidence to try new maneuvers that otherwise seem to difficult. Even though I have not had to use it much, the knowledge of having that safe guard has helped improve my flying. It works flawlessly when needed. I then go to my other two helicopters with Vbars and try the same maneuvers with confidence. Definitely a Great Flybarless System

I have chosen to run iKon on all of my machines. The primary benefits I've found with iKon are: -Latest generation Invensense gyro sensors. These gyros utilize hardware vibration filtering. I've found that even with stripped main gears, MASSIVE overspeeding maneuvers, and badly vibrationg heli's with bad bearings do not impact the performance of the gyros. The nmodels remain perfectly flyable through all maneuvers -Electric/Nitro governor support. I run iKon with Castle Edge ESCs in external governor mode. The RPM regulation is unmatched by any internal governer design since it's proactive instead of reactive -Amazing cyclic feel. iKon has some magic in the cyclic algorhythms. If you are a sport pilot or do piro 3D, the feel is amazing. I couldn't use vBar after i became used to the iKon since the feel just improved my flying to a new level (I do piro 3d). -Auto-rotation bail out: I like to do crazy autos, and this feature is tons of fun to play with

I recently switched my heli's to iKon flybarless systems. The benefits I have found are as follows: - VERY intuitive and easy to set up - I saw performance equal to if not better than my 2-piece (sensor and processor) units I replaced (on a 700 class machine) - Extremely compact and lightweight - Much less expensive than the units I replaced - VERY vibration resistant - Easy to set up bank switching, for quickly changing configurations in-flight

So far liking this unit. Took me a few times to get the self level dialed in. One thing that needs improvement is the instructions. Also be aware that you need to have access to the rear of the controller for programming where ever you mount it

IKON - Never Fly Without it!1
I'm a die-hard IKON fan and between all of my Helis, I will never mount any other FBL unit other than an IKON on them. I cannot begin to tell you how many instances this unit has saved my Goblin 700 from an imminent crash due to pilot error. I fly high & wide as well as hard 3D and have easily saved by Heli from over 150 possible crashes using the IKONs self-level mode that you can activate with the flip of a TX switch and then quickly go back to normal flight after leveling. I've come within 9ft of the ground, full-speed, nose down on my G700 and with the flick of a switch on my TX, leveled the heli in a nano-second and saved it from total destruction! Ask HeliDirect field rep Sean, he'll tell you! lol Whether you're pushing the edge of the envelope in expanding your flight expertise, learning new 3D maneuvers or just want the peace of mind that you'll always know right-side-up on your heli (especially if the sun momentarily blinds you in flight), the IKON is your #1 choice and holds rock solid through any maneuver you put it through. Just the safety factor alone for those around you, yourself and your equipment while you're in flight, knowing you can rely on the IKONs self-level mode in an instant, makes the IKON unit pay for itself from your FIRST FLIGHT. ***Notes*** If you're flying a 700 Class Heli, I suggest you keep your main blades very screw-tight in the blade grips. Self-level mode if inverted with give you a good amount of blade flex when engaged. If you're mounting this unit on a Goblin 700, MAKE sure you have 145mm or more of clearance between lower portion of main blade tip and top of boom. Oh! - And don't forget to apply positive pitch on the collective each time you use the self-level mode! A requirement! =)

So far so good! Waiting on a Satellite receiver to be able to take advantage of the bank switching but initial impressions are that it's simple enough to get a flyable tune on it yet the advanced menu allows it to be complex enough to get it perfect. It's working very well on my Gaui X3.
